ILC’s new Cockburn Centre opened its doors to the public in early September. Featuring a smart home display and a range of assistive equipment and technology, the Centre welcomes people on a drop by basis from 9am to 4pm, Tuesday to Friday.
The friendly faces who will greet you include Occupational Therapists Sacha Marchant (pictured left) and Anelle Young (right) and Customer Services Officer Steph Bourne (middle).
In the photograph, Sacha is demonstrating how to control the lights, blinds, music, air conditioning and front door from any room with a tablet device; and Anelle is showing one of the wheelchairs available for viewing at the Centre.
The team brings a wealth of experience.
Sacha is a Perth trained occupational therapist with over 22 years experience. She has worked in a range of settings but her passion is for assistive technology and the difference it can make to people’s lives. Sacha has worked at the ILC for 14 years and is currently involved in the establishment of the new Cockburn Centre and the redevelopment of NED (National Equipment Database). Both projects will ensure ILC’s services are even more accessible to people.
Comprising over 13 years experience as an occupational therapist, Anelle has worked in South Africa, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia. She has worked in wide variety of settings including acute hospital work, community rehabilitation, specialised equipment prescription, vocational rehabilitation, paediatrics and more recently at Fremantle Hospital in the day therapy unit.
Steph has worked in the fitness industry for the last 12 years, predominantly with women in the Middle East region specialising in fitness and special populations devising small group training for obese, diabetic and mobility impaired clients. Steph is also qualified to teach and enjoys teaching classes such as Pilates, Aqua, Step and Spinning. She recently completed her Masters in Sport Management and worked in research on the ability of events to encourage participation in an active lifestyle.
If you would like to see equipment in an apartment setting, are interested in smart home technology or are looking for an introduction to assistive technology and exploring a range of possibilities for you, or someone you know, drop by to Cockburn and the team will be happy to help.
Assistive equipment and technology can help people to remain in their home, be safer and more independent.
