Seniors become more tech savvy

SRC_ComputerThe Tech Expo for Seniors, held on 26 February and hosted by the ILC and COTA WA (Council on the Ageing WA), proved popular.

Over 100 people attended to learn about current and emerging technologies and to gain insight into the many ways that technology can help people to stay in touch, communicate with others, be safer and more independent, participate in recreational activities and perform tasks such as banking.

The expo offered interactive and informative exhibits, as well as a range of engaging presentations on topics such as:

  • how to choose a tablet;
  • making your computer easier to us
  • accessing eBooks;
  • telecommunications for communication or safety; and
  • telecare solutions to help you stay at home.

Efriends_Ken_EmilyAttendees comprising different levels of experience embraced technology at the expo, with the most common interest being how technology can support people to stay in touch with friends and family through telephone options, emails, Skype and Facebook.

Results from the feedback surveys backed this up showing people are mostly interested in technology, including computers, phones and tablets, for social reasons.

Comments from attendees about the event were encouraging and included:

“It was very worthwhile attending. I hope to keep learning about technology as I become older, to keep up with new technology”

“I congratulate organisers and presenters on an excellent morning which helped clarify my decision to purchase a suitable tablet to meet my needs”

“Lots of good information was presented that covered several topics in the one place”

The ILC and COTA WA are grateful to the participating organisations who contributed to this successful event. Thank you to
